London Marathon 2019

So this Sunday I’m going to be running the London Marathon. As I’ve told many people,

once I’d applied I actually decided I didn’t want to do it so on the day the ballot results came out I was praying for a “No”. I’d had trouble with my knees training for a trail ultra last summer so I figured it wasn’t worth causing an injury but continuing to run silly long distances and risk not being able to do obstacle course racing anymore. But as it turned out on results day I opened my post to see the “You’re in!” magazine! I have to say my heart sank a little as I knew it’s really lucky to get a successful ballot place. This was my third attempt but I’ve also heard of people being unsuccessful 8, 9 even 10 times so I knew I couldn‘t turn it down!! After a few days I accepted I was going to do it and booked my hotel for the weekend. That was back in October! I followed a training plan for Brighton marathon last year, my first marathon, but I decided to do a bit more research and put together an 18 week training plan which would start just before Christmas. But those 18 weeks are now nearly over!! I‘ve not found it easy to fit in the training this year, trying to get in 4 runs a week, around starting my massage therapy business, teaching spin and family commitments but race day is nearly here and I feel fairly well prepared and I’m so excited about running London! I’ve watched it most years on TV and the thought of actually being there doing it makes me quite emotional. I don’t know yet if I’m going to try and get a better time than Brighton on ease it back and enjoy the day, take in the sights and soak up the atmosphere but either way its going to be an amazing day!! Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace.....I cant wait! It’s going to be tough but so worth it!! Even though I was lucky enough to receive a ballot place I decided to use the opportunity to raise money for the RNLI. They are a big part of the community in Selsey and an important part of Coastal safety all around the country and they do an amazing job. If you would like to donate to the RNLI they please go to www.justgiving.com/lyndsey2019
